A Reverent Prayer to Bast for the Loss of a Cat Familiar
Thursday, May 13th, 2010Dearest Bast, Most Beneficent Cat Goddess of Lower Egypt,
whose boundless wisdom is beyond measure, Hear My Prayer:
For reasons I cannot now fathom, you have summoned Leoni,
a valued friend of mine, back into Thy exalted presence.
Knowing felines share an evolutionary path with humans,
does Leoni’s passing indicate he earned a karmic advancement?
Did Leoni return to Thy Temple because the lessons
we needed to teach each other had been learned?
Has he been separated from me and called to another path
as an opportunity for us both to develop in different ways?
Whether the true reasons for Leoni’s passing be accidental
or by design, I stand before Thy magnificence, broken-hearted.
The loss I feel is terrible–the place in my heart that belonged
to the ginger cat I loved so dearly feels vacant and empty.
Great and powerful Bast, please comfort me in my time of grief.
My sorrow and heartache runs so deep, I desperately need
to fill my heart space with only fond memories of our alliance.
Help me reconcile Leoni’s passing so I may honor him
as a fellow being progressing upon his feline’s path.
Powerful Bast, if it be Thy Will, please grant me an opportunity
to access Leoni as I knew him so I may receive resolution.
As I place my focus upon a rock painted with his likeness
and recall our time together on earth, allow Leoni’s essence
to enter the rock so that to hold the rock is to caress him.
As I send heart-energy to the feline I loved so much in life,
I pledge to honor all the felines within Thy Domain.
Make my tears of sorrow change into tears of gladness
as I marvel at the awesome beauty of it all.
AMEN
NOTE: The above painting and prayer was inspired by BAST, but was not created for myself. I post it for the benefit of others who have experienced a recent loss of their feline friends.
May Blessings Abound, Lady Sekhmet
